Optimism

I got this brochure in the mail today for an event the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane is holding called 'Optimism'.

That's a fairly striking title in itself, I think we could call use a dose of optimism.

But what really caught me was the picture on the front of the brochure.

'Yes I wear a superhero costume. I thought I needed to be someone... why not a superhero?'

I think that, I really agree. In this world we're all searching for that person we want to be. We try and better ourselves all the time, better our looks, our skills, our personality. We think we need to be someone..

She makes a good point.. why not? Become a doctor.. Travel overseas.. Start something new no one else has tried before... why not be a superhero?

One of my favourite quotes..

I read this book last year "God Chicks: Living life as a 21st century woman" by Holly Wagner and the chapter The 'Whatever it takes' chick was one of my favourites. There was the quote in it that made the slightly tacky "chick" references worthwhile.

When women around the world told Holly how much they wanted to have her life and how could they get it.. this is what she would reply with.

"Study hard... read a book a week.. stay married when you feel like leaving.. write a letter to a friend when you'd rather shop.. play with your children when you want some time alone.. write when you feel like sleeping.. work out when you feel like playing.. control emotions when you feel like screaming.. forgive when you feel like hating.. overcome limitations when you want to quit."

Thoughts I stole from Mr Max Lucado

In my opinion. Max Lucado is a brilliant man. He wrote one of my favourite books of all time.. 'You are Special'. This book is essentially about self esteem issues and I read it as a child. I think it's interesting to know whether music, art & books truly impact people - but I know this book is a big part of who I am today. The notion that no matter my achievements, what I look like, what people think of me, I am special because the creator of the universe designed me this way. My Dad bought it for me, my brother and sister and I will definitely purchase it for my children when I have them.

Currently though, I'm ready 'No wonder they call Him the Saviour'. And I love this thoughts from Max Lucado.

To chop or not to chop?

That truly is the question that I have been trying to answer for nearly a month. To chop or not to chop?

I know, pretty high class problems I have right?

For over a year I have been sporting slightly different variations of the slanted bob/regular bob. And I am now reaching that stage I always reach after about 6 months of the same hair-do.. where I start to send myself crazy due to lack of hair inspiration.

Help!

There are both positives and negatives to having short or long hair. Short is 'trendy' and apparently suits my face shap. Long is better for doing pretty things with and is better in summer because I can just pull it off my face.

If you do read this blog, suggestions and opinions are not only appropriate, they are welcomed and wanted.

Weddings..

By the end of this weekend I shall hopefully come out alive after I completely immerse myself in the wonderful weird world of weddings.

I'm going along to check out the future Mrs Aiton's wedding... but afterwards... I will be attending.. the Brisbane Bridal Expo! Yikes!

One of my best friends Rebecca is getting married in 2010 and so we are going along to the expo to pick up ideas and inspiration and hopefully a free gift or two.

Apart from supporting my friend, and enjoying pretty dresses etc.. I'm fairly excited about spying on some crazy BrideZilla's. I'm sure they will be out in full force. I'm also on the look out for groups of ladies without engagement rings. Just wondering whether people who aren't engaged rock up to these kind of things and just.. plan their wedding in advance. They'll find the husband later.
